The opening of the fifth international Chess Festival "Moscow Open 2009" has been held in the Russian State Social University. The organizers of this Festival warmly welcomed participants after the introduction.

The head of the Moscow City Department of Physical Culture and Sport Mikhail Stepanyants underlined that Chess Festival is a significant event in Russia and this year it became an annual event. Also he noticed that 1579 chess players would take part in “Moscow Open 2009”.
- The Festival gives juniors a chance to acquit themselves and give a shot. An example, that is being shown all the time by GM, provides a powerful impetus for living and sport.

The President of FIDE Kirsan Ilyumzhinov thanked the Russian State Social University for help and support. He pointed out that the Russian State Social University became the main venue for worldwide chess development. Besides the festival in RSSU, World Chess Federation (FIDE) will hold FIDE arbiters’ seminar, an academic and research conference “Chess in Russian and World Education System”. Also there will be opening of the first Internet Academy. In conclusion Ilyumzhinov wished good luck to the participants and said he hoped there would be future world champions.

The President of the Moscow Chess Federation Vyacheslav Beresnev called the festival as a purl among the the Moscow Chess Federation’s calendar. He noticed the federation gained lots of victories last year. Another upside was that the chess became more popular.

The first pro-rector of the Russian State Social University Oleg Shatrov promised that RSSU would be of assistance to FIDE in the future. Also he pointed out that the University has strong growth potential.
Finally Shatrov said that he kept his fingers crossed and wished beautiful games.
