International Chess Festival “Moscow Open 2009”


January 30 (arrival) – February 9 (departure), 2009.


Total guaranteed prize fund of the Festival is 7 million rubles.

Location:

Moscow, Russian State Social University (RSSU)
Ul. Vilgelma Pika, 4. Metro station “Botanicheskiy Sad”.
ATTENTION: smoking is not allowed at the territory of RSSU!

Format:

“Moscow Open 2009”  consists of 7 separate tournaments: “Open A”, “Open B”,  women “Open C”, school chess champions tournament “Open D”, school chess teams tournament “Open E”, The Cup of Rector of RSSU among chess teams of Universities - “Open F”, World Cup on chess compositions solving“ - Open G”.
Arbiters’ seminar under FIDE patronage and Scientific-Practical conference “Chess in the system of education of Russia and in the World” are held at the same time.

All tournaments are held according Swiss system and FIDE rules.
Opens A, B, C – 9 rounds; Opens D, E, F – 8 rounds; Opens G – 4 rounds and Solving Tournament.

“Open A” is open to all chess players with no regard to rating. Prize fund is 3 000 000 rubles. First prize – 500 000 rubles (48 prizes in total).
“Open B” is open to chess players with FIDE rating no less than 2300 and without FIDE rating. Prize fund is 1 000 000 rubles. The main prize is 150 000 rubles (48 prizes in total).
“Open C” is open to all women with no regard to rating or age.
Prize fund is 700 000 rubles. First prize is 150 000 (31 prize in total).
“Open D” (selection to the World Championship among pupils, Greece, Thessalloniki, April 26 – May 4, 2009) is open to school champions. Age groups (separately for boys and girls): under 9 years (2000), under 11 (1998), under 13 (1996), under 15 (1994), under 17 (1992).  Winners in age groups (10 persons) are provided with free accommodation and meals in Greece according to the Regulations of the School Championship.
”Open E” (selection to the Open European Championship among school chess teams, Bulgaria, Varna, June 11-21, 2009) is open to the teams of general education schools. Age groups are under 10 years old (1999), under 12 years old (1997), under 14 years old (1995), under 16 years old (1993). Team composition: 3 boys, 1 girl – all should be pupils of one school of general education, one leader of the team. Teams-winners in age groups (20 persons) are provided with free accommodation and meals in Bulgaria.
“Open F” (The Cup of Rector of RSSU among Universities’ teams) is open to teams of Institutes and Universities of Russia and World. Team composition is 6 man, 2 ladies, 2 reserve players (man and lady). All players should be full-time students, including no more than two graduates of 2008, 1 coach, 1 representative of a team. First prize is 500 000 rubles, Second prize – 300 000 rubles, Third prize – 200 000 rubles.
“Open G” – World Cup on chess compositions solving is open to chess compositions solvers.
Prize fund is 150 000 rubles. This tournament is held in 2 days in 4 rounds, 2 rounds per day, including solving tournament.
Start of the rounds in Opens A, B, C at 4 p.m., start of the rounds in Opens D, E, F at 10 a.m.

Time control is 105 minutes to the end of the game to each of the player with extra 30 seconds per move starting from the first one in all tournaments.

Conditions of the participation:
Expenses of the participants of the tournament (travel expenses, meals, accommodation, tournament fee) are covered by participants or delegating part.   
Grandmasters with current FIDE rating 2625 and higher (Open A), grandmasters with current FIDE rating 2475 and higher (Open C) are provided with accommodation and meals starting from January 30 (evening) up to February 9 (morning). Four leading grandmasters on chess composition (Open G) are provided with accommodation and meals starting from January 30 (evening) up to February 2 (morning). Starting fees are published on the tournament web-site.
